8 Dec 2011 Ride: Cycles

This journey started in the winter and it is ending in winter.  Leaves were off the trees and the shadows of bare trees were everywhere, as they are again.

I almost took for granted the absence of leaves and the shadows and was actually a bit taken aback when spring arrived and with it leaves on the trees that then blocked out the sun.

But, here we are again.  almost 583 million miles later, the distance the Earth travels around the sun in one year - now, there's a biking journey for someone!

I am reminded of the movie version of H.G. Wells' The Time Machine, when the protagonist boards his time machine and watches the world change outside his window as he zips through the centuries.  My journey has felt that way at times as I would ride through downtown and see changes from when I was there a few months earlier; it was as if I was an outside observer, not part of daily life I saw around me.

Today was one of those days when I busied myself around the house and wanted very much to stay put.  Once on the bike, I enjoyed myself just fine, but this body is weary at it is looking forward to a break.

Finishing up the ride today, I came across Leo in almost the precise place I encountered him yesterday.  That seemed so odd since, even though he has been riding almost every day, yesterday was the first time I came remember passing him.  We enjoyed a hearty hello, said a few words and then moved on.    I'm sure I will see him again.

Earlier in the day, I talked with a reporter by phone regarding the biking and blogging.  She is doing an article on me and two other bike-bloggers who happen to be in Little Rock.  It may be a couple of weeks before the article is out.
